Inquirer's Class on the Episcopal Church 1/22, 9:15 am

Mon. Night Movie/Book Discussion 1/30, 7:30 pm
     Monday Night at the Movies continues Jan. 30 at 7:30 in the Library with more watching & discussing Mitch Albom's "Have a Little Faith" - Trailer.

Parish Annual Meeting Sun 1/29 after 9:30 am Service
    The Parish Annual Meeting will be after the 9:30 am Service on Sunday, Jan. 29.  There not be an 8 am service on this Sunday. On 1/29 Godly Play Sunday School will begin at 9:30 am. There will be a continental breakfast served.

Red Cross Blood Drive Mon. 1/30, 2-8 pm 
    The Red Cross will hold a blood drive at St. John's on Monday, Jan. 30 from 2-8 pm. Please sign up for a time on the bulletin board in the Narthex.  Your blood can be used to help three different people. 
    
Looking For Work (LFW) Meets Next on Mon. 2/6 at 8:30 am
     LFW provides support for those who are unemployed or underemployed and is now meeting the 1st Monday of the month at 8:30 am in the library. All folks looking for work are invited to attend the meetings whether members of St. John's or not. More information is available on the LFW Facebook page.

Thanks to all Pageant Participants
     We thank all of the students, parents and grandparents who participated in the Christmas Pageant on Jan. 8.  A special thanks goes to Paulynn Auger, Sue Tower and the parents for sheparding the sheep, etc.  It was a good show and great fun. Winter Worship Schedule
  o  Sunday, 8:00 am, Spoken Liturgy, Holy Eucharist, in the Sanctuary.  
  o  Sunday, 10:15 am, Liturgy with Music, Holy Eucharist, in the Sanctuary.
  o  2nd & 4th Sundays of month at 5 pm - Celtic Service. All are welcome.
  o  Tuesday, 10 am, The Circle of the Spirit Prayer Service in the Library 
  o  Thursday, 11 am, Healing Service, in the Chapel. 
 
New Blue Hangings and Vestments
   The photo to the right shows the new blue seasonal vestments on Rev. Linda Northcraft.  Above that is the new blue altar cloth. Below is a hanging for the lectern. The entire set is a gift in memory of Marcia Baker given by Claudia Osborn.  We thank her for this generous gift.  They were designed and created by Collette Pariseau.  For more info on the set and an explanation of the change from Purple to Blue for the Advent Season by the Rev. New To You Resale Shop
     The normal NTY Resale Shop hours are Mon.-Fri. 10 am-4:30 pm, Mon. 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and Sat. 10 am to 1 pm.  Enter from the parking lot entrance East of the church. St. John's Community
     St. John’s Episcopal Church in Royal Oak is a parish of about 500 people, who come from all over the metropolitan Detroit area. St. John's Stained Glass Windows Exposed
     Richard Leslie, Parish Historian, has writing a set of articles on the church's stained glass windows for recent issues of News & Views.  To enhance your enjoyment of these articles, Richard's pictures of these windows will be loaded on the St. John's website and linked to his articles. Currently the first four Apostle Windows (Luke, Barnabas, Philip and Nathaniel) above the Balcony discussed in the Jan. News & Views (p.8) are featured.

Casualties of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars
     As a reminder that we are still fighting the Afghan war after 10 years, we are publishing a War Casualties page which gives weekly information on the US casualties (deaths) in the Afghanistan War and in Iraq. During the lastest week, Dec. 10 16 there were casualties in Afghanistan. The Iraq war officially ended on Dec. 18 and the last Iraq casualty was on Nov. 14, 2011.The total since Jan. 1, 2011 is 54 in Iraq and 411 in Afghanistan. The US troop casualties are listed individually and only the numbers of other casualties are given.
