Are you looking for a place to worship?

We are located on the southeast corner of 11 Mile and Woodward in Royal Oak – the A-frame church with the red doors. Our normal worship times are 8:00 am and 10:15 am from the first Sunday after Labor Day through the last Sunday before Memorial Day, and 8:00 am and 9:30 am during the summer.  We are a Christian community of about 450 parishioners following the teachings and liturgy of the Episcopal Church. Our services feature many different forms of liturgy.

Are you looking for a Church School for children, or adult education opportunities?

We’re proud of the comprehensive educational opportunities for children and youth at St. John's.  The innovative Christian formation curriculum offerings on Sunday morning are as follows for the 2012-13 church school year.

o  Children ages 4 through 7 - "Godly Play" 
o  Children ages 8 through 10 - "Living the Good News" 
o  Youth ages 11 through 18 - "Seasons of the Spirit ENCORE"
o  Sky: Vacation Bible School for kindergarten to 5th grade July 9 to 13, 2012.

Sunday Adult Ed - Inquirer's Class
The Inquirer's Classes are for those who want to learn more about the Episcopal Church and/or want to be confirmed or received into our tradition. The classes will be taught by the rector and others on Sundays at 9:15 am in the Library. The the tentative topics and dates for 2012 are:
o  Jan. 8 - What do the creeds proclaim about Jesus?
o  Jan. 15 - What does a progessived church say about the Bible?
o  Jan. 22 - What is The Book of Common Prayer and how is it used?
o  Jan. 29 - St. John's Parish Annual Meeting - no Inquirer's Class.
o  Feb. 5 - How is the Episcopal Church organized?
o  Feb. 19 - What is the history of the Episcopal Church and its Celtic origins?
o  Feb. 26 - Questions and answers.

Is it important to you to offer help in your community?

St. John’s has a long history of outreach programs. Our signature outreach programs are the Open Hands Food Pantry, which serves those in need of food and other personal necessities, and the New To You Resale Shop, which provides inexpensive clothes, books, dishes, etc. The net proceeds of the resale shop are allocated to various local and national agencies. Join us in these or other outreach ministries.

Are you looking for a diverse and friendly church?

Our youngest member is months old and our oldest is in his or her 90s. We are "cradle Episcopalians", third-generation members and folks brand-new to St. John’s and the Episcopal Church. We are many races and ethnic backgrounds. We are straight, gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgendered. We are married, single, partnered, divorced, separated, and widowed. We are white collar, blue collar, student, retired, self-employed, unemployed and under employed. We are social security dependent and we are financially comfortable.

Visit us any Sunday. You’ll be welcomed by members of the congregation. Becoming a member of St. John's Episcopal Church is easy. Simply speak with the rector and request to have your baptismal information from any Christian church recorded in our parish records. If you have not been baptized, we offer instruction in preparation for this sacrament.
Christian formation is a life-long journey. For new members Inquirer's Classes are offered in January and February on Sunday mornings.
